I forgot to mention what daddy did on board. I guess his rank was seaman, he was a mineman, worked for the chaplain, and worked in the library. Don't know if that will matter or not, but I know those ships are big with lots of folks on them. Jan

my dad, Glenn Metcalf, was on the Gilmore from '55-'59 in Key West. He was from PA. One of his friends, Leon Houffacher, a shipmate and PA resident, also, introduced him to Niurka, my mom, a cuban girl raised up in Key West. They married in '57, had my brother 12 mths later in Key West, and then Daddy was discharged in '59. They moved to SC, Daddy went to college (Bob Jones Univ), had my sister and myself, graduated, moved back to Key West in '65. They started up a church there and we had sailors, marines, and soldiers living with us off and on throughout the years, but he had lost track of his shipmates by then. We left in '73 and moved to Georgia. My parents began another church up here from a Bible Study in our home. In 2001 we found out Daddy had cancer; we fought for his life for 9 months before he finally went to be with Jesus in May of 2002 at the young age of 66. Mom is still pastoring the church and it's still going strong (because God is doing the work, not because of us). Because Daddy didn't talk a whole lot about his time in the Navy with us, I'm trying to find some who served with him hoping they can give me stories (if there were any). I understood he was fairly close to Leon and i have emailed some of you hoping to find him. If you have any info, please let me know. God bless you...Jan

I was ICFN "Lefty" Lefebvre, 1979-1980 ,worked in the R-3 I.C. Gyro Shop for IC1 Carl Cmehil. I was the phone talker on the bridge the day the XO was killed. I wont ever forget him or that day. Does anyone remember he used to come down to the "speed line" every Friday and dish out burgers and beans and talk to us guys as we came through the line? Dont know too many XOs who would do that. Other than his death, I had a great time that tour, the "Big Club" , and took the ride home with her to de-commissioning in Norfolk. Another person injured the day the XO was killed was BM1 Henry Dickenson, now BMCM Dickensen (Ret.) Years later, I served as a young Chief Petty Officer with Henry on the USS Trenton LPD-14. During my commissioning as an LDO, Henry was the one who gave me my officer's cover, and first salute. Its a small world, during shipyard work being done to one of my vessels at Detyens Shipyard in Charleston. S.C. this summer, I realized my Project Manager was IMC Phil Stanley (Ret), who was also on the Gilmore 79-80. In 1993 I got a rare look at Gilmore again while she was in Norfolk Naval Ship Yard, getting Nuclear Handling facilities cut out and removed. The paint was faded and falling off. You could just make out the 16 on the bow, but her lines still graceful for an old ship. I would love to hear from anyone from back then, Dash? Bobby Graves? Singletary? CW04 Mckee?
Take care all.

hey shipmates!! i was on the happy howie from 1970-1972 in the mk 37 torpedo shop with chief hughes, maddog maddox, moss, joe erwin, dave groth, rick "slick" meredith, lee pedro, ron ehler, ens. warr, and many others- also fuzzie mensch from the 14 shop, big john athey, homer farrel, tom sinott, and way too many others to try to name this late at night. the two years on the gilmore were two of the happiest years of my life- and convinced me to stay in the reserves- i finally retired out of the reserves in '94 after 28 years- i would like to thank chief hughes and tm1 ron "maddog" maddox for the many valuable lessons in leadership and in life i learned from both of them- if anyone knows the whereabouts of either, i sure would like to get in touch with them- or any of my ol' shipmates- i have been in touch with dave groth and joe erwin- dave did tell me that rick meredith has gone on to the last muster, a victim of cancer. i hope to hear from more of y'all in the near future!! jerry t. jarmon TMCM USNR-RET

On board 53to55. Picked up the ship in the Boston Navy Yard in 1953. Came aboard as a EM3. Had many great adventures, trip to Newfoundland, the hurricane on the return trip. Worked outside repair Div 10. Workedat night on the snorkels and then got the next day off in Key West. The guys that worked at night hot a chit and were allowed to sleep in the next day. My wife was living in KeyWest so I would get up and go home. I would hang my chit on a buddies rack so he could stay in he rack. This drove the MA mad because he knew what I was doing but could not wake all the guys to find the one who did not work. He swore he would get me and he did when I ate lunch on one of the boats and did not get back to take in my bedding. But that is another story. One of the guys I would really like to locate is Smokey Reynolds who would sit in the slopshoot, drink beer and cry at the country music. He was a great friend.

Howdy, I served on the Happy Gilmore in 1973 in Madellena in Sardina In October of that year the VP, Agnew resigned and all the enlisted men stood up and cheered when they announced it on the intercom. Anybody
remember that? Interesting period of time for sure. I wrote my first article which was published in the ship's newspaper. It was about a visit aboard the HMS Intrepid a British navy cruiser that visited and took liberty in this little village. Anybody remember reading that story? Better yet, is there any archives where I could get a copy of that ship's newsletter. I worked in the service department, serving
food, washing dishes and pressing clothes, Hey, we ate pretty good there, remember the lobster tails and steak meals?
It was a good time on the Gilmore, didn't care for the crowded living
conditions but heck, can't have it all great.
Like to hear from my buddies..

Proudly served 11/74 -11/75 (I still remember, 389 days). First duty after Boot Camp and Data Processing School. A great experience I'll never forget. Worked in data processing a few months, went to the Supply department for a few weeks.(yuk) Worked in the laundry for a while. I did all the dry cleaning at one point. Laundy dept was great, no duty. (This worked out well, since we went to Nice, France. Got off the ship everynight. Made E-4, went back to the data processing. Loved Italy. Finished 4 year tour in London, England.

Hello all. I was on the Gilmore 76-77 and worked in ADP as a DPSN/DP3. This was my first ship and first duty station. Who would know that I'd spend the next 20 years in the navy and retire as a CWO3? Sure miss those days sometimes, yea, even miss driving Tom Marshall crazy, who I kept running into during my various tours in DC. If we served together on the Gilmore or elsewhere, drop me a line and we'll swap sea stories. Go Navy!

I served in ADP from October 1973 until January 1978. I visit this site often hoping to find old friends. The memories of the people live on in my heart especially the S-6 crew.
Every now and then a name comes flooding back and with it the memories. Don't be upset if I don't mention yours now, as this is emotional and my memory has never been the greatest. Just write. Anyway, Dusty Sweeting, Rich Slate, John Harnish, Mike Dunn, Dan Epping, Hamilton, Al Palomino, Vic Freeman, Niel Inabinet, "Boot Camp", Bernie Moorman, Mike Houghton, Colelli, Bill Engen, Andy Bellofatto, Mark Bushman, Dale DeYoung, and then there are those unforgetables who were with me in D.C. for a while: Mike Sansoni, Lauren Jensen, Big Joe Hill, Fred Imhoff, and of course buddy Dave Likovetz. You've all touched my life in one form or another. I still search for you guys from time to time and who knows maybe one day we'll actually touch base. I came aboard the Gilmore out of Boot Camp in about September 1951 and was assigned to the Deck Force. After a few months went up to the bridge as a QM striker. Went to ET School at Great Lakes as a QM3. Returned to the ship, worked on the surface and air search radar and communication equipment until about May 1954, when I was transfered to the Surface Antisubmarine Development Detachment in Key West. Left the ship as an ET2. Sure would like to hear from my "old" shipmates I worked with either aboard the Gilmore or at SURASDEVDET.

While participating in a digital photography forum, an "off topic" message appeared asking me if I had been on the Gilmore from 67-68!!
It was from Bob Stothfang and I could not beleive it! I could not place
the name and face. I emaild Bob and he returned with info about himself.
I worked as an MR3 in the machine shop but, had ham radio and electronics experience before joing the Navy. Couldn't get into electronics because of defective color vision, what a shame. Could copy code at 20-30 wpm. Spent after hours in the cal lab with a great bunch of guys who took me under their wing. Got my first phone, Advance and Extra ham radio tickets with their help in 1968.
This is really a suprise and highlight of my evening.
Short Bio:Went on MR5 aboard USS Garcia DE1040 in 68 and 69 (Newport/Boston), discharged late 69. Got BSEE from Purdue in 74, Married in my sophamore year, twin boys who are now 28. Worked for Naval Underwater Systems center, Sippican Ocean Systems, EF Johnson Co, ADC Telecom, Sparton Electronics. Mostly doing RF design.
Still have ham ticket, W1DN, but not active. More into digital photography and video.
Many thanks to Bob Stothfang for snagging my name out of the thousands on the net. I am very grateful to all the gang in the Cal Lab for taking me in and letting me use the ham rig. Very friendly and understanding group. When I look back, the Navy was really good to me.
Would love to find some of the MR's that worked in the machine shop but remembering names this many years later is kinda difficult.
Thanks so much,
Lee Snook

Served aboard the H.W. Gilmore from 6-74 to 12-75 in the Damage Control Division. Remember standing the watches up in DC Central with the weapons watch and usually having a super fun time. DC div. consisted of a bunch of crazy,SOB's. Mayfield,Hollingsworth,Bartlett,Shaw,Roberts.Taulbee,Jackson,Pittman,Falbe,Snipes,Rearick,Roy,and Marhefca made the tour both interesting and bearable. There were times when all of us would catch the launch to Palau and party hard starting out at Guido's then working our way up the street to the Discoteque.
During my tour aboard "Happy Howie:, we cruised to Ville france(twice), Malaga,Barcellona, and Mallorca,Spain. Tunis,N.Africa was a change of pace and a port I'll never forget!!

Served on board Gilmore AS-16 FROM 1958 TO 1961 at Key West then at
Charleston, S.C. Started as an RM2, later as RM1 was LPO of the
Communications DIV. Commanding Officers I remember were ROTHAMEL,
HYDE, ALEXANDER AND de los Michaels, (all 4-stripers). One of the
finest Officers I met in my 22 years was my comm officer, LTJG JESSE
GRAHAM, FROM MISSISSIPPI, a mustang who had earlier served on USS
STERLET. The most infamous I met on Gilmore was JOHN (Jack) WALKER,
WHO was later convicted of spying for the RUSSIANS. I later went on
subs; but GILMORE was definitely the best surface vessel I served on.

Wow, looking through the site washes memories over me! Reported aboard wearing HA (e-2) stripes left Her after making e-5! Learned so much, did so much and had a blast. I was the Corpsman who in the summer of 1979 had the only four english speaking, single females staying in my apartment (My sister in laws all came to see our first son born in Naples) once the word got out in La Madd who the girls were staying with I think sign-ins in Sick Call Jumped! TO GREG PARKER: Remember going out with Cdr. Chabot to get that Ensign off the boomer? A memory that will stay with me forever. (35-40ft seas embarked on the YTB "Ocala", foot prints on the bulkheads and the Tug Crew in their bunks cuz it was too rough. Tugmaster would steer her, throw open a Steering house porthole puke and keep motoring.)
QUESTION: WHO WAS WITH ME AT SEA AND ANCHOR DETAIL WHEN WE GOT RAMMED BY THE "OCALA" WHEN GETTING UNDERWAY TO DUBROVNIK?
Tons more to write but will space it out as I edit it all down for fairness to readers. Please feel free to contact me at my email address, I promise prompt reply! BZ

I went to the U.S.S. H.W. Gilmore right out of boot camp at Great Lakes , I was assigned to the OM shop and made Seaman, then I went to Great Lakes for school and ended up on the U.S.S. San Marcos which is still a float with the Spanish Navy. I got out of the Navy in 1964 and went back in the Reserves in Abilene , TX. where I switched to the SEABEES did 2 tours in Vietnam with MCB 3 , Antartica (wintered over 70/71) Then to NAS Jacksonville,FL. then to MCB 71, MCB 62, Gulfport, MS. then to schools command Gulfport , MS. then to CBC Gulfport , MS. then to NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA. then I retired in 1982. We have been to several reunions with the SEABEES and I am going to one in Pensacola, FL. in November for Antartica our 1st. My wife works at Stennis Space Center wiht Naval Oceanographic Command and I don't do much anymore as it is kind of hard being disabled and having PTSD from Vietnam. I remember the H.W. Gilmore as a great ship and often think of her fondly.

Sorry for the double entry.....I wanted to add this website to the guestbook. These are a bunch of pictures we scanned and compiled into an online album, which might be of interest to anybody who was on the Gilmore, especially if you ever worked in the Foundry, or were there from 1969 to 1972. If you recognize anybody in the pictures, I would really appreciate hearing from you !! I've tried to contact Twig (E.B. Wiggins) from the email address on the first page of this site, but it has changed.

This says "Metamora" -- but I'm from Chicago, Illinois. I boarded the Gilmore July 1969 in Charleston, SC and was discharged from Pasacagoula, Mississippi in November 1972, when the Gilmore was dry-docked. I was a molder (ML-3). My wife found this page while reminiscing with other military wives on the web, and we spent the whole evening reading the guest book. Some of the names seem SO familiar, but I'm having a hard time putting faces with the names! I kept saying I wish we could find Twig, Stiles, and Benny.....and LOTS of others in R1 Division. Does anybody remember Keebler? Wayne Fleming was struck and killed by lightning, just 52 days before he was to be discharged from the Navy-- while swimming with a group of the guys at a pond near Pascagoula. I was the military escort to his funeral in OshKosh, Wisconsin, and several other men traveled to WI for the funeral. I was surprised that his name wasn't listed in the list of fallen shipmates. Keebler had made two tours to Vietnam. Anyway, in our trip through the guest book, we were happy to find Twig - Earl Bruce Wiggins, still living in Wilmington, NC. We remember lots of fun times with Twig and all the Animals!! We paid a visit to see Benny in St.Louis several years ago (George Lawrence Benoist) and then lost touch with him again. He and Theresa have 5 children- 4 girls & 1 boy, who are about the same age as ours. Mary and I have 3 sons and a daughter, aged 25 to 18 - the twins just graduated from high school, and we celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary this year. I have lots of pictures of the Gilmore, Key West, and shipmates during the Key West years 70-72. I'll send some to the album on this site, and post others in an online album..... website to be posted later on. Would really like to hear from ANYBODY who remembers me. Others I worked with, and names I remember: Bill Pierce, Dennis Kujawa, Wayne Williams, Chief Mac, Chief Sam (Johnny Syamken). We stayed in touch with Chief Sam for awhile, and Nancy wrote us a few years after I was discharged that Sam had died of a heart attack the day after he retired from the Navy. This is a fantastic web site !! Great to find you all !!

I served on The Gilmore from Novenber 68 through Aug 69, My last duty station of my 4 years. Previously did duty at Danang and California,
worked in the "SUB-Mart" Department in supply and also was in charge of the Physical Inventory during the drydock rebuild in 69. Did some duty as a Master At Arms for about 8 months to a year. We had so many SK's on board had little work to do in some areas. THe Gilmore was a fun ship to on. Little "Sea" time was a nice trait. Good crew and made many friends during the tour. Have not kept in touch wiht many to date except for Tony Broeker in Iowa and anm looking for Tom Smith for New Jersey. Some of the other names are Don Marshall, Pinky Collins.
If anyone knows any SK'sduring this time let me know. Bob Alias "Groovy"

On Gilmore 72-74, Key West, Mobile, Pascagoula, Gitmo, Haiti (how in the HELL did we loose BOTH anchors in Haiti??!!) Ships Service, Ships Store Office... Will never forget that bar in VillaFrance.. Anybody out there know the one I'm talking about?, about two miles from Fleet landing.. Packed with 'receptive' ladies, cheap drinks, we were in heaven.. Was on the Quaterdeck watch when the Seabees blew up the island to make way for construction, and peppered the side of the ship with bolders! Went back to key West a few years ago, sad to see that empty pier where we were tied up to... And , the Brown Derby is now The Green Parrot.. Drop a line if you remember... George Gilkenson SH-3

I had orders for Support Activity, La Maddalena in 1972. I was in a group of about ten men. We stayed in the hotel and ate in the local restaurants preparing for the ship to arrive. When the USS Howard W. Gilmore pulled in we were all reassigned to the ship. I was given the job of Personnel, Mail and Cargo Coordinator. If you transferred off the ship before November of 1974, I probably arranged your transportation. I left the ship in late October 1974 when the ship went for R&R in Tunis, Tunisia.

I was just a kid from Alabama and the Gilmore was my first Duty station out of Bootcamp/fireman school. I was put in the HT shop and became an HT2 by the time i got out. I was there 79/80 and rode the ship back across and since i was ships company was one of the last ones to leave. I still remember coming back across the Atlantic with all those cars and bikes on the decks, I remeber in Norfolk them putting the word out about her being sent for decommision and all the ships coming and raiding her for parts. I remeber the last day i left AS-16 she was sitting high in the water and you could see the tops of the propellers. I had a ball as a young E3 there in Italy. It was the first time i had been away from home. I have worked in a Steel mill for the last 17 years and always looked back on my time on the gilmore as happy times.

SK-2.I was assigned to the forward hold storerooms. I was wondering if anyone remembers the time when I was locked in the forward hold overnight??[I was on tyhe deck below where the phone was and they had a FIRE DRILL.The CHIEF of the forwardfire party dogged the hatch above me and said they would be back in 15 minutes.WELL, needless to say,I was still in the MSTTRESS LOCKER when an alternate came to open the forward hold the next morning.BOY!, WAS THAT GUY SURPRISED TO SEE ME! My first job was co2 scrubbers on the Nautilus number 2 engine room. I left AS-16 for the gator navy in Little creek in 1978. I now live on the Gulf Coast and have been a policve officer for 17 years. My current rank is Chief of Police. Not bad for an old Gilmore machinists mate. I enjoyed my tour, 1967 & 1968, working on boats and tours to San Jaun. The Gilmore was stationed in Charleston during these years and I worked as an ET repairing electronics equipment and replacing sub cables when they got flooded. It was hot nasty work on those pig boats, but we enjoyed it in retrospect. I wish I had spent more time exploring the wonderful city of Charleston, but they weren't too friendly to sailors. I still keep in contact with one of my old Navy buddies, Roger Silhavey.

Served from 10/75-10/77.I worked in S-1 Div. as a SKSN. I spent 2 years hauling oxygen up the gangway to the second deck and putting them in there little holder. It made a nice work out. The Rock was no place for a 18 y.o. in his prime to be. We were humping "stores". Every 4 months we got a liberty cruise so we could excercise some putang and give the guys wives on the ship a break. When we didn't have enough to do we fought grass fires around La Madd and Palau and alot of fires on the Rock. Spent alot of time rock climbing and camping in the rock hills across the bay. Fought the commisary fire still got my letter of commendation. Remember CMDR.Veniza the XO I explained to him in simple terms why i needed a section eight ,but he couldn't understand. Remember the big dope bust in about 1976 about 100 guys had to go to extra duty muster. They just caught the stupid ones. About 1 out of 10 guys on the silly gilly was a NIS informent. Why do you think it's called the silly gilly. I really enjoyed feeding Cheif Whites donuts to the fish and seagulls every morning before muster i had to make sure the fish liked them before i ate them. If Tim King, Tim mccarthy, Randy Spray,Dave Rogalski read this drop me a line. We can talk about torturing the S*** Bird, god he stunk.

Thanks to Fred Curtis for telling me about this site. I was aboard the Gilmore 1958-1960 in Keywest and Charleston. I remember sitting off Cuba ready to evacuate American Personnel if Castro should happen to lose. He won and we were happy. Boy, were we ever fooled. Of course, Batista was the other choice. I played basketball for our Submarine Squadron. We played in the Sublant Tournaments in Portsmouth, Virginia. The next year we played in the Charleston Base League. Anyone remember? I would like to locate John Ferrell, IC Electrician from North Crolina. I went through boot camp with him before we were sent to Keywest for the Gilmore. Any ship mate feel free to contact me. I would like to reminisce. Good luck to you all and God Bless.

My father, Leslie Hewett, Jr., was stationed aboard the USS Gilmore. I don't know the exact dates but we were stationed in Charleston, SC in the early 60s. This was when he was stationed aboard her. Daddy passed away in 1969, as the early age of 42. He passed away on March 10, 1969. If anyone remembers my Daddy, who also went by the nickname "Ace" please respond. I am interested in hearing more and reviving memories that have faded. I was around 11 or so and had a sister, who also is deceased, who was 4 years younger than I. I remember attending a Christmas party and think this was aboard the Gilmore. I might have been about to turn 10, or perhaps 11. You may reach me at: ga_scarletlady@yahoo.com. Thanks very much. I was an RM2 stationed aboard the H.W. Gilmore from June of 79 to May of 81 or close to those dates any way. I stayed behind when the H. W. went back to the states. I used to tell people that the ship PCSed and I stayed. I transfred from Naples with a NATO command so it wasn't a big jump for me. I drove to Cetetavechia, I apoligize for the mangeling of that Italina port city's name. then a ferry to Sardinia, My sponsor RM2 Joe Gillouti (ice cream) said I would need it. Wrong. Being in radio, If I remember correctly, we worked two 12 hr days 24 off and two 12 hr Mids, then we would get 72 hrs off. With that I was able to take a MAC flight back to Naples about every third week to see my squeeze. I was on leave when the XO was killed. I was readling the stars and lies in bed at the General Patton hotel in Garmish. I read the head line One killed and others injured aboard ship in Sardina. Talk about sitting up in bed. When I retured to Naples I stopped in to see one of the injured. He was on deck not far from the XO and said that the XO took the blunt of the impact and it was the reason he was still alive. I can't remember his name but he was a LDO ensign or LtJg. What i remember most was the boredom of the winter. We used to say there is a girl behid every tree, but there are no trees. Sailor humor. Summers were fantastic. Wow It's difficult to believe that more than 20 years have gone by. I think Mick and the lads said it best "WHAT A DRAG IT IS GETTING OLD." That's all for now. Paul sends

I was stationed on Santo Stefano with Det Kiwi USNMCB 133 when the ship pulled in in 1973. Used to eat chow on the ship and bum around. Gotta say though, the food was better at the Italian Navy mess. Met a bunch of real crazy sailors from the Gilmore. Never forget it. I remember hanging with some of the crazed people in one of the berthing compartments, the aisles had names...asshole alley... butthole blvd...As I said, they were CRAZY. I remember hanging the sewage tank under the pier, finally time to hook up the ship when it happened. Had large rubber hoses to hook to the pipes. Chief Reeter and another of us Seabees were in the little boat trying to hook them up. A 40 foot utility boat went by and the little boat dipped in the wake and came back up hooking fast under the s*** pipe. The boat filled up in a rapid fashion and they had to abandon ship. We fished Chief Reeter out, there was a chunk of turd stuck in his hair.

Served from 74 to 75. Played drums in the Gilmore Band and actually had my drums shipped over from the States before I got there. My Rating was TM for a little while and then I went to C division. The best bunch of guys on the planet. Missed Reilly by a couple of months though but finally caught up with him in Norfolk. My hat is off to those of you who braved Santo Stefano whithout wives during those tumultuos years.

I came over on the USS Orion in 1980 to relieve the USS Gilmore. I believe that the accident to the XO happened a week or two before we arrived. I was restationed and rode the Gilmore back to the states. For being a sister ship of the Orion, it was amazing how differently the 2 ships evolved over the years. I was an EM2 and had duty the day we got back in port. Unbelieveable, all the EMs left the ship and left me to rig shore power. I had to get a bunch of Enginemen to help me pull the shore power cables. I got out of the Navy 3 weeks later. Not a long stint but I was on the ship for a couple of months.

Hi,
I served aboard the Gilmore from Feb. 1979 and took her back to Norfolk in 1980, when I got out. I was a TM2 working in W-1 Division, under the forward mess deck. I've got many wonderful memories of La Madd and I only wish I could remember some of my shipmates names from that era. I was sea and anchor helmsman, GQ helmsman, and stood underway hemlm watches too.
I remember the day the XO, Capt. Kleinsdeist, died very well; I was on the bridge working as the CO's phone talker when the accident happened. I remember it as being a strong gust of wind that came up and put too much stress on the cable at the time we were already moving forward from our Med-moored position to release the forward mooring lines. A tragic accident. 2 Bosun's mates were also hurt in that accident. I don't remember their names but 1 was a chief and the other was a BM2(?), who'd been stationed with me before on the USS Orion, AS-18, in Charleston. I was on her from 1972 to 1975.
I stood in-port watches in DC Central at that stupid Nuclear Weapons Security panel. I was the one responsible for calling the "Security Violation" alarm when the roving patrolman didn't return on time. Remember the "Security Violation! Security Violation! All hands stand fast!" alarms that would ring out every couple of days or so?
I also remember the telephone booth that stood in the main deck corridor outside DC Central, where guys would stand in line to make collect phone calls back to the states. It was right outside my duty station and Friday & Saturday nights were especially popular. Also, going to the beer hall for either semi-cold beer and burgers and watching movies, especially "FM," which seemed to be either very popular or just a movie we got a lot. Also watching Saturday Night Live down in the Steam Torpedo Shop under the after mess decks, and playing poker in the FT Shop with Meat LOaf blasting over the stereo.
If any of my old shippies remeber me, or remember those days, give me a ring.

WOW, TALK ABOUT A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE. I WAS STATIONED ON THE GILMORE FROM 2/74-?/75 ABOUT 18 MO.I WAS IN THE S-1 DIV. AND RAN THE MAIN GSK STOREROOM TIL SK2 HALL DECIDED TO RAIN ON MY PARADE, JUST KIDDING OF COURSE. THE MAIN GSK WAS TOO MUCH FOR A NOVICE SN TO HANDLE ALONE. FOR THOSE THAT DON,T REMEMBER WHERE THE MAIN GSK WAS, IT WAS RIGHT NEXT TO THE BRIGG. I WAS HUMORED SEVERAL TIMES WITH A FEW TENNANTS WHILE HANDLING THE STORES. SOMETHING TO BREAK UP THE DAY. MAN, BACK THEN I WAS SO STUPID AND THOUGHT THAT THAT LIFE WAS TOUGH, IF ONLY I KNEW THEN! IT TRUELY WAS SOME OF MY BEST TIMES...
HOW ABOUT MARTHA CASALONI, THINK ALMOST EVERY GUY PROPOSED TO HER AT LEAST ONCE. 18 YEARS OLD AND SOOO STUPID
ANOTHER GREAT MEMORY I HAD WAS THE TIME SKSN MARTINEZ AND I WENT TO NAPLES FOR A 96ER. WE SPENT ALL OUR MONEY BEING (STUPID) AND CALLED THE SHIP TO INFORM THEM THAT WE HAD BEEN ROBBER AND HAD NO MONEY OR WAY TO GET BACK TO THE SHIP. WE SQUEEZED THEM OUTTA ANOTHER DAY OFF AND GOT A JET RIDE IN A SMALL LEER JET BACK TO OLBIA. SKC KARGAL KNEW WE WERE FULL OF IT AND WANTED TO KNOW WHO WE WANTED TO PLAY OUR PARTS WHEN THEY CAME OUT WITH THE MOVIE VERSION OF THE FESTIVITIES. OF COURSE WE HAD SOME ACTORS IN MIND!
I,LL NEVER FORGET THE GILMORE OR THOSE GREAT TIMES.
